What do you currently do at your company?

Currently I am the President and CEO of California Recovery Group Inc. We are a public adjusting firm focused on helping homeowners obtain the settlement they deserve. Our firm covers a wide range of incidents including environmental disasters such as wildfires and flooding to theft and vandalism. Our qualified team of adjusters work hard to obtain the highest settlement possible when it comes to property claims.

What was the inspiration behind your business?

Growing up my parents were taken advantage of by their insurance company. They were loyal customers of over twenty years but unfortunately that was not taken into consideration. After they had a loss occur at their home the insurance company denied the claim even though it was covered. I made a promise to myself that I would make a career out of helping vulnerable policy holders that are being taken advantage of from the insurance company.

What keys to being productive can you share?

I consider myself to be a very structured individual and I think that organization is key to being productive. We schedule regular meetings and we are always educating ourselves on the latest technology as we continue to adapt to an ever changing legal environment.

Tell us one long-term goal in your career.

The insurance sector is complex, so our goal is to help homeowners understand all of their options. I take pride in helping individuals gain the necessary funds to account for any losses they have suffered. My long term goal is to help as many people as I can before I retire.

How do you measure success?

I measure success by having a balanced life.  I constantly take the time to improve my spiritual, mental and physical self every day. I believe in striking a balance between my personal self and my work obligations. Running a business is challenging, but also highly rewarding. While my professional role is very important to me, I am also thankful that I can take time for myself.

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned through the course of your career?

One of my mentors always told me that it is important to pursue a career that you are passionate about. I decided to pursue a career in insurance because I knew it was a way I could help people. I consider myself to be very fortunate as I get to do what I love day in and day out.

What advice would you give to others aspiring to succeed in your field?

Believe in yourself and believe in helping people and success will follow. Confidence can be hard to come by, especially when you are first starting out, however, it is important to believe in what it is you are trying to achieve.

How would your colleagues describe you?

I think that my colleagues would describe me as approachable and responsive. I value open-communication as I believe it to be fundamental to success. Everyone deserves to be heard and I value the thoughts and opinions of my entire staff. I am also very open to constructive criticism. I am always willing to learn and improve myself. I think the ability to self-reflect is essential in business.

How do you maintain a solid work life balance?

I have a structured day that starts with morning routines. I make sure to spend time with family and make sure my colleagues have a good work/life balance because I find that to be very important.

Who has been a role model to you and why?

My father has been a great role model. He is very hard working and proved to me with hard work anything is achievable. My advice to other individuals who are trying to succeed in business would be to find a mentor, someone who can help guide you through challenging times and provide sound advice when needed.

What is one piece of advice you would like to leave our readers with?

Success is having a good balance between personal, social and professional environments. In business it is very easy to suffer from work-related burnouts. My recommendation to readers would be to take the time to adhere to a set schedule and unplug once you are home. Enjoy your time with friends and family and try not to answer emails or messages outside of work hours.
